Jaclyn Goetz
Jaclyn Goetz is a multi-disciplinary artist who began painting in her early twenties, focusing on acrylic and mixed media work before discovering her favorite art form, oil painting. She completed a Master of Music in Piano Performance degree at the University of British Columbia in 2016 before beginning her Master of Counselling Psychology: Art Therapy degree at Adler University in 2023. Through her ongoing studies paired with a deep love for the arts, she is discovering her own unique approach to artmaking. Jaclyn’s artist identity and artistic approach continue to evolve, transforming into an art as therapy experience of curiosity, exploration, compassion, and mindfulness.
Jaclyn’s paintings are improvisational and exploratory, featuring abstract, botanical, and organic themes and landscapes. She was born and raised in a small town in Saskatchewan before moving to Vancouver, BC in 2014. Growing up in a rural farming community and then moving to the Pacific Northwest has strongly informed the artist’s definition of “home” and how this integrates into her unique cultural identity. The beauty of the prairie landscapes is woven into her sense of Self and continues to inspire and express itself through her artwork. Many of her oil paintings reflect early childhood memories picking wildflowers with her father in the fields surrounding her hometown. Through sprawling landscapes and botanical imagery, each painting shares the common themes of growth, security, transformation, and identity.
Jaclyn works primarily in acrylic and oil paint. She seeks to challenge herself through her choice of colors, materials, and techniques that are often outside her comfort zone. Through artmaking that at times elicits resistance and discomfort, she experiences freedom while learning to let go. Her creative process allows the paintings to visually transform into works that cannot be achieved through planning or striving. She allows the art itself to guide her while also practicing mindfulness and presence in the here and now art experience. Through this mindful approach to artmaking, she continues to discover a new way of creating art and giving form to her internal world. Her aspirations are to build a counselling/art therapy practice that instills hope in individuals through meaningful connection and compassionate care. She believes everyone is deserving of safety, understanding, and love, and is committed to helping people discover that they are more than enough. Jaclyn finds peace, hope, freedom, and joy through painting and her desire is to share and inspire these feelings in others.
Jaclyn lives with her partner Luke and her Siamese Ragdoll cat Mathilda ‘Mattie’ in West Vancouver, British Columbia. As she completes the final year of her counselling/art therapy degree, her days are filled with reading, schoolwork, nature walks, beach visits, and painting.
